SEMARANG – Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) continues to strengthen its role as a vocational college oriented towards innovation and industry needs by holding a Workshop on Downstreaming and Commercialization of Innovative Products at the Polines Campus Directorate Building on Monday (August 3, 2026). The workshop raised the theme "Synergy of Research, Innovation, and Industry in Supporting Downstreaming of Polines Innovative Products" as an effort to accelerate the transformation of research results into products ready for use by the public and the business world.
The activity was officially opened by the Director of Semarang State Polytechnic, Dr. Garup Lambang Goro, ST, MT, accompanied by the Deputy Director for Cooperation, Public Relations, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Kurnianingsih, ST, MT. Also present were lecturers and academics who have been actively developing various innovations within the Polines environment.
In his remarks, the Director of Polines emphasized that the success of research is not only measured by academic output, but also by the extent to which the innovation can be implemented, developed in collaboration with industry, and provide real benefits to society.
“"Vocational universities must be able to bridge the academic world and the industrial world. Downstream processing is a crucial process for developing research results into products with economic value, opening up business opportunities, and increasing the nation's competitiveness," he said.

To enrich participants' insights, the workshop presented two speakers from academics and industry practitioners.
The first speaker, Agung Wahyono, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., Deputy Director of Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems at Jember State Polytechnic, delivered a presentation on Public Service Agency (BLU) Management Strategy as a Driver of Downstream and Commercialization of Vocational Higher Education Innovations. He explained how the flexibility of Public Service Agency (BLU) management can be utilized to accelerate the development of innovative products, build strategic partnerships, and increase the added value of vocational higher education research results.
Meanwhile, Ayuning F. Desanti, Chief Executive Officer of PT Solusi Produk Indonesia, presented on innovative product commercialization strategies. She emphasized that innovation success is determined not only by technological excellence but also by business model readiness, market needs mapping, intellectual property protection, and the ability to build networks with industry partners.
The discussion was interactive, with participants asking various questions about the challenges of product downstreaming, strategies for establishing collaboration with industry, and the steps needed to ensure that research innovations can be produced sustainably and be competitive in the market.
Through this workshop, Polines hopes to create a stronger innovation ecosystem involving academics, government, industry, and the business world. This synergy is expected to accelerate the development of innovative products that are not only technologically superior but also ready for commercialization and contribute to national economic growth.
