Polines Library Improves Digital Services Through Library Information Systems and ETD Training

SEMARANG – The Academic Support Unit (UPA) of the Semarang State Polytechnic Library (Polines) continues to be committed to improving the quality of digital services by holding Library Information Systems Training and Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD). This activity took place on Wednesday (29/7/2026) at the Polines Campus Directorate Building and was attended by librarians and educational staff from Polines.

The training was officially opened by the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs of Polines, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwiana Hendrawati, ST, MT, accompanied by the Head of the Polines Library UPA, Muhammad Syam Suryanto, S.Sos., and the Head of the Academic Sub-Division, Nugroho Joko Usito, S.Kom., M.Kom.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs stated that the transformation of library services is a crucial part of supporting modern academic governance. He stated that libraries no longer function solely as centers for book collections, but also as centers for digital knowledge management, capable of providing fast, easy, and comprehensive access to information for the academic community.

“"Developments in information technology require libraries to continuously innovate. This training is expected to improve the competency of library managers, enabling them to provide high-quality, effective digital services that meet the needs of students and other users," he concluded.

As a resource person, Waris Agung Widodo, SIPust., Librarian of the Semarang Ministry of Health Polytechnic and Developer of SLiMS (Senayan Library Management SystemOn that occasion, Waris shared material on library information system management, institutional repository development, and the implementation of Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) as part of the library's digital transformation.

He explained that institutional repositories are a strategic tool for preserving scientific works while increasing the visibility of university research results through broader digital access. Furthermore, the implementation of ETD also supports the efficiency of student final project management, metadata validation, and strengthens the academic information transparency ecosystem.

Furthermore, Waris emphasized that the success of repository transformation depends not only on technology, but also on the synergy between institutional policies, infrastructure, human resource competencies, and the culture of knowledge sharing within the university environment.

Through this training, Polines hopes to optimize digital library management and provide fast, integrated information services, while supporting the improvement of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This activity also serves as one of Polines' strategic steps in strengthening digital transformation in the academic field and scientific work management.
