At the 19th BEM SI National Conference at Polines, the Minister of Science and Technology Emphasized the Importance of Integrity and Leadership.

SEMARANG – Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisintek) Prof. Brian Yuliarto, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of quality human resources (HR) who have capacity, professionalism, and integrity in supporting national development.

The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology made this statement while attending the 19th National Conference (Munas) of the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) at Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) on Monday, July 27, 2026. The Minister was welcomed by Polines Director Dr. Garup Lambang Goro, ST, MT, along with Polines' leadership.

In his presentation, the Minister of Education and Science and Technology explained that economic development depends not only on the availability of natural resources but also on the quality of human resources. He stated that human resources with integrity are the primary asset in building clean governance and public services.

The Minister of Education and Science also explained the concept of statecraft, namely the ability to skillfully manage a country. He assessed that students' experiences in organizations, particularly through leadership in the Student Executive Board (BEM), can be a means of developing coordination, decision-making, and leadership skills.

“"The experience of student organizations is an important learning process to prepare the younger generation to face the nation's various challenges," he said.

Amidst the rapidly changing global situation, the Minister of Education and Science and Technology encouraged students to continue to maintain a critical attitude and show concern for various national issues.

“"I know these students are a very critical generation. Please continue, because we really need critical people who care about our country," he said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology highlighted the important role of universities in developing research and innovation to strengthen national capacity. Indonesia possesses abundant natural resources with the potential to be developed into alternative energy sources, one example being the development of bioethanol from agricultural products.

The development of these innovations is considered to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while strengthening national energy security. In this regard, universities have a strategic role in producing research and innovation that can meet the nation's needs.

Reiterating the importance of integrity, the Minister of Education and Science advised students to never compromise on this value in life or in carrying out their responsibilities.

“"My message is one: integrity. Never compromise on integrity, because that's the highest price. A person's highest value is integrity," he said.

Closing his presentation, Minister Brian invited students to not only be observers or provide criticism of various national issues, but also prepare themselves to be part of the solution.

“"Keep thinking critically, kids. If there's anything lacking, fix it, voice it. But what's far more important than that is that you all must become key players," he said.
