Digital Engineering for Building Construction Brings Stefanus Santosa to Professorship at Polines Semarang

SEMARANG – Stefanus Santosa has officially become a professor in the field of Computing Science, Building Modeling Learning Technology, Civil Engineering, Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines).

The man who was born in Blora, received the title of Polines professor at the age of 65, with his latest paper entitled "Artificial Intelligence for the Development of Digital Twin Models for Industrial Laboratory Equipment and Civil Engineering Learning".

Prof. Stefanus made a new breakthrough in the world of civil engineering by creating a digital tool simulation of building materials.

The way it works is fairly simple, namely carrying out building material calculations digitally without presenting a physical form.

"So people make concrete when the design has been made, then it will be printed and tested using a concrete compression testing machine. That's conventional like that,"

"Well, what I made was that once the design was made, what level of cement, how much sand, just enter the numbers for the material requirements in the system. The results will come out immediately. It can be used." said Prof. Stefanus after being inaugurated as a professor at the Polines Semarang Integrated Lecture Building, Tuesday (5/12/2023).

Prof. Stefanus added that the level of accuracy of this system can be accounted for.

"You can see the extent of the strength of the concrete that has been designed without physically making it first," he added.

In the future, he plans to apply this system to project owners as a time efficiency measure.

"This is still development, we plan to develop it in the future," he said.

The Director of Polines, Prof. Totok Prasetyo, said that the addition of professors on his campus has made Polines even more present in society.

Apart from that, it can also boost Polines' ranking in the ranks of well-known campuses.

"At the beginning of December, Poliner was number 67 at PTN in Southeast Asia, number 2 at polytechnic level in Indonesia, then number 17 at state universities," he said.

He hopes that the inauguration of this professor can encourage lecturers at Polines to achieve the title of Professor in their respective scientific fields.

"Hopefully the contribution to polylines will be even greater. Especially for Prof. Stefanus, don't be a banana tree professor, where once it bears fruit it's finished. "So I don't want that after the prof is appointed, the scientific work that follows will die," he continued. (*)
