Ajie Nayaka Nikicio (National University of Singapore) won the best paper award (Best Paper Award) at The 6th IEEE
International Conference on Communication, Networks and Satellite (COMNETSAT) 2017 through a paper entitled Radiation Analysis and Mitigation Framework for LEO Small Satellites. The award was given by the Director of Polines Ir. Supriyadi MT during the Gala Dinner at the South Grand Ballroom Gumaya Tower Hotel, Semarang.
In his paper, Nikicio presented framework low-cost radiation analysis and mitigation for small satellites Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The radiation effects studied are Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Single Event Effect (SEE) and solar cell degradation. The study on radiation effects was presented using the Galassia nano satellite and the Kent Ridge-1 microsatellite from the National University of Singapore which was launched on 16 December 2015 in the LEO area near the equator with an altitude of 550 km and an inclination angle of 15 degrees.
The second winner of the Best Paper Award was won by Janette Salvatus (University of the Philippines Diliman) through a paper entitled Development of Deployable Antennas for the Diwata-2 Microsatellite's Amateur Radio Payload. Salvatus does the design and testing deployable antenna for amateur radio on the Diwata-2 microsatellite. Diwata-2 is a 50 kg micro-satellite designed to observe the earth. The antenna has been tested and shows good results between simulation and actual measurements.
Meanwhile, the third winner was Haitham Hassan Mahmoud (British University in Egypt) who wrote a paper entitled QoS Enhancements in Energy harvesting Cognitive Radio Communications Networks. Limitations on spectrum allocation and power supply on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) encourages the use of techniques Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) and Energy Harvesting (EH). Power and spectrum efficiency can be achieved by combining the CRN and EH technologies on the WSN. In this paper, Mahmoud introduces the optimization of Markovian battery modeling to increase the packet loss probability associated with the EH probability.
Organizing Committee Chair COMNETSAT 2017 Dr. Eni Dwi Wardihani explained that to choose the best paper, each paper was assessed by a minimum of three reviewers who are experts in their fields. "The best paper is determined from the average score (average) is the highest with the distance between the reviewers (span) the lowest,” concluded Eni.
