SEMARANG – Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines) has once again proven its commitment to community service through the Regional-Based Development (PBW) program. This program is funded by the Directorate of Academic Vocational Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2024.
This year is the second year of the PBW program, the community service team led by Dr. Ir. Kurnianingsih, ST, MT, together with multidisciplinary lecturers and students, focuses on the development of clean energy and waste management in two thematic villages in Tembalang and Meteseh Villages, Semarang City. The PBW program consists of multidisciplinary lecturers, namely Dr. Dwiana Hendrawati, ST, MT, Dr. Wyati Saddewisasi, SE, M.Sc., and Muttabik Fathul Lathief, S.Kom., M.Eng., as well as multidisciplinary students from the Informatics Engineering Study Program, Computer Engineering Technology, and Energy Generation Engineering Technology as a form of MBKM.
In the Hasta Karya (Haskar) Thematic Village, Tembalang Subdistrict, the Polines team developed an IoT-based smart Solar Power Plant (PLTS). This PLTS is integrated with an IoT-based smart plastic shredder that was previously created in the first year of the program. With this PLTS, MSMEs in the Haskar Thematic Village are expected to be able to increase productivity while contributing to environmental conservation.
In addition, PLTS will also support the village's plan to open an afternoon culinary snack center, providing double benefits for residents.
On the other hand, in the Dung Tungkul Thematic Village, Meteseh Village, Polines focuses its efforts on developing smart IoT-based plastic waste processing tools. This tool not only helps local MSMEs turn waste into new sources of income, but also utilizes previously built PLTS to ensure a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly process. This innovation is expected to be able to change the face of the Dung Tungkul tourist area to be cleaner and more sustainable.
With the success that has been achieved, the Polines team hopes that this program will not only continue, but also invite more collaboration from various parties to create more impactful and sustainable innovations. (bis/rit)
