Collaborating with PT Braja Elektrik Motor, Polines Semarang Lecturers Apply Smart Technology Innovation in Electric Motorcycle Conversion

Polines Semarang lecturers together with PT Braja Elektrik Motor collaborated to create innovations to create electric motor conversion kits. Currently the need for conversion motorbike part kits is still very difficult to find on the market.

Apart from that, technological developments in Indonesia regarding part kits for converting fuel motorbikes to electric motorbikes are still very lacking.

Another obstacle is that almost all of the components used still have to be imported.

"The problem that has been encountered so far is due to the unavailability of Conversion Part Kits (Plug n Play) with domestic components. This is because the main components of the part kit consist of several components that are still separate. "We need to develop a Smart Part Kit (plug n play) tool to be applied to electric vehicles," said the owner of PT. Braja Electric Motor, Yoga Uta Nugraha.

Through the funding Matching Program from the Director General of Vocational Studies, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, TA.2023, the Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) lecturer team is trying to provide breakthrough innovation and mentoring.

Chaired by Ahmad Hamim Su'udy, S.Pd., MT from the Energy Conversion Study Program and supported by four members, namely Ali Sai'in, S.Pd., MT, M. Showi NUSPd., MT, Nur Fatowil Aulia STMT and Afandi Nur Aziz Thohari, ST, M.Cs and Aisyatul Karima, S.Kom., M.CS from the Informatics Engineering Study Program have started providing assistance since March 2023.

In this program, Semarang Polines Lecturers developed an innovative main part kit component consisting of a 2KW dynamo casing, Lithium Battery Bracket, and a plug n play arm system which was implemented in automatic and duck electric vehicles.

This product has the advantage of a replacement process so that it doesn't take a long time for the motorbike conversion process, it only takes less than 4 hours for the process of converting a fuel motorbike to an electric motorbike.

This product can provide convenience for the world of motorbike conversion drivers. In Indonesia itself, the government's target by 2030 is that 13 million motorbikes will be converted. This is one of the government's strategies in accelerating towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

The results of this program and sustainability efforts include the formation of a teaching factory and the creation of an energy conversion workshop certified by the Ministry of Transportation.

PT. Braja Elektrik can utilize the products produced by this program to increase production and marketing of its electric vehicle products.

It is known that currently the government continues to strive to reduce the need for fossil fuel vehicles.

This is in line with Presidential Instruction no. 7 of 2022 concerning electric vehicles. The conversion of fuel motorbikes to electric motorbikes is regulated in the regulations contained in the Minister of Transportation Regulation (Permenhub) No. 65 of 2020 concerning the Conversion of Motorcycles with Combustion Motor Drives into Battery-Based Electric Motorcycles.
