Totok Prasetyo, Inaugurated as Professor of Polines

Prof. Totok Prasetyo

Located in the Multipurpose Room (RSG) of the Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) campus, Tembalang, Semarang, Wednesday (2/2) an Open Meeting of the Polines Senate was held with the inauguration ceremony of Prof. Dr. Totok Prasetyo, B.Eng, MT, IPU, ACPE as a professor in the field of thermodynamics, majoring in mechanical engineering, Polines.

Chair of the Senate Polines, Dr. Jusmi Amid, SE, M.Si inaugurated Prof. Totok Prasetyo as the 2nd professor at Polines. On this occasion Dr. Henri Togar Hasiholan Tambunan, SE, MA, The Director of Institutional and Vocational Higher Education Resources represents The Director General of Vocational Education, Kemendikbudristek draped the professor's sign to Professor Polines.

Prof. Totok Prasetyo, who currently serves as Director of Polines, in his scientific oration entitled "Utilization of Low Temperature Geothermal Energy Using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Technology with R123 Working Fluid" said that the substance of this professor inauguration speech described his ideas regarding the magnitude of Indonesia's natural resource potential, especially in the geothermal sector. "This priceless treasure of energy is stored in the bowels of Mother Earth, Indonesia," he said.

Meanwhile, until now it has not been exploited as much as possible for the benefit of the Indonesian people. Geothermal in almost all regions of the archipelago, explained Prof. Full-blooded, must be converted into Electrical Energy. One of the fields of science that has a major role in the energy conversion process is Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with the conversion of heat energy into other forms of energy. The first law of thermodynamics and the second law of thermodynamics serve as a reference in discussing energy changes. This is the answer to the solution to the new paradigm of using alternative energy, and has become the focus of my research studies so far.

In his scientific oration, Prof. Totok Prasetyo, described the territory of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke which is included in the Pacific Ring of Fire or Ring of Fire, which saves a very large potential source of heat energy available just like that by Nature. Geothermal energy potential with thermal energy reaches temperatures above 3000C has been utilized by building a Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) but there is a potential heat source with low temperatures ranging from 800C up to 1500C, so that my next speech will reveal the strategy of utilizing energy with low heat sources to produce electrical energy using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology.

Here, the Science of Thermodynamics is really applied to convert heat energy into electrical energy. Thus, in the future waste energy heat that occurs at low temperatures (800C up to 1500C) can be minimized because the temperature deviation can basically be exploited to produce electrical energy.

At the end of his scientific oration, Prof. Totok Prasetyo who is also an alumni of the 1st batch of Undip Polytechnic now Polines, concluded that based on the results of laboratory simulations of the ORC system with temperatures of 110°C and 120°C and using various types of working fluids above, thermodynamically the working fluid R123 has the best performance compared to the working fluid. another job.
