YOGYAKARTA – Students of the Electrical Engineering Department of the D-III Electronic Engineering Study Program and D-IV Electronic Engineering Technology Study Program of the Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines) have the opportunity to receive the Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Prospective Seafarer Scholarship for 2025/2026. This opportunity was conveyed in a socialization activity held at the Joglo Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, Thursday (4/24/2025).
The socialization activity was also attended by the Coordinator of the D-III Electronic Engineering Study Program Ilham Sayekti, ST, M.Kom., who gave his full support to the program. According to him, this scholarship program is a great opportunity for vocational students to develop their competencies while building their careers early on.
“This scholarship is a golden opportunity for our students to not only receive educational support and certification, but also have a clear career path as Electro-Technical Officers on PIS ships. This is in line with the spirit of vocational education that focuses on link and match with the industrial world," he said.
This scholarship program is a collaboration between PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) and the Pertamina Foundation, which aims to recruit young Indonesian talents to be trained and work as professional sailors on PIS's tankers. Through a program titled Crewing Talent Scouting 2025, students will receive assistance with education costs, training, and competency certification with a work bond at PIS.
Polines is one of seven selected universities in Indonesia that has been given the opportunity to participate in the selection of this prestigious scholarship program. Especially those who have an interest and ability in the field of ship electricity, have a great opportunity to be trained as an Electro-Technical Officer (ETO). The ETOs will later be tasked with handling the electrical system and electronic equipment on board PIS tankers totaling more than 100 units.
Polines involvement in this program is a real proof of the contribution of vocational campus in preparing graduates who are ready to enter the industrial world, especially in the national maritime and energy sectors. This program opens up opportunities for students to contribute directly to supporting energy security through professional and globally competitive marine transportation.
