Politeknik Negeir Semarang (Polines) continues to develop various innovations to help solve problems in society. One of them is by developing appropriate technology to help increase the productivity of the home industry in the form of corn gendar in Wonosobo, Central Java.
The appropriate technology developed by Polines is a tool for breaking and flouring corn. The benefits of the application of appropriate technology from Polines are now starting to be felt by residents in Candimulyo Village, Wonosobo, Central Java. The main thing is to increase the production of corn gendar which has been carried out by many village residents.
“We are very grateful for the assistance from Polines. "This corn kernel breaker and flouring tool really helps us in increasing the productivity of corn gendar products," said Barokah, a resident of Candimulyo Village and a corn gendar business actor and beneficiary of Polines' activities.
Corn gendar itself is one of the superior snack products from Candimulyo Village, Wonosobo, Central Java. Many villagers use corn gendar production as an effort to increase the family economy.
The development of technology for chopping and flouring corn seeds is part of the Community Service (PKM) Community Partnership Empowerment scheme. This program involves a number of Polines lecturers and three Polines students.
"Our innovation aims to modernize the production system and improve management in order to increase the productivity of local corn gendar," said Polines Lecturer who is part of the Candimulyo Village PKM team, Eko Saputra.
According to Eko, so far local residents' corn gendar production is still limited because the production process still uses conventional equipment and there is no technological touch. Apart from that, from the aspect of marketing management, namely sales promotion, it still uses conventional techniques through third parties or intermediaries so that sales results are still not optimal.
“We then helped develop tools for breaking and flouring corn seeds and helped to create social media accounts and accounts e-commerce which can be used as a sales tool on line. We also help branding by making the logo and packaging for this corn gendar," Eko added.
This corn crushing and flouring machine made by Polines is a corn kernel crushing machine with a capacity of 100 kg per hour. Meanwhile, the flouring capacity is 50 kg per hour.
With the presence of these corn crushing and flouring machines, the productivity of residents' corn drums has increased. Meanwhile, for sales, apart from being able to sell directly, the corn gendar business actors can also sell their own products to a wider market reach.
