Two Polines Students Become Winners in the Creative Winter Program in Taiwan

Five Semarang State Polytechnic students (Polines) participated in the Intelligent Life Creative Winter Program. This program was organized by the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology (First Tech), Taiwan on January 23-29 2018.

The Polines delegation consisted of five students from three different majors, they were Reisi Rizqie Auliya; Sharif Mumtaza Fahmi; Arindra Martha Sasmita from the Department of Business Administration; Maria Graciella Calma from the Department of Accounting; and Karina Laras Novitasari from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Together with students from Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, and Pakistan, Polines students competed to present prototypes of their innovative ideas. This seven-day program begins with the ice-breaking and activities creative thinking. Then the students were grouped into teams where each team consisted of 4 students. On the second day the participants started doing brainstorm to their ideas. On the third and fourth day, they were required to build a prototype of their idea. The prototype presentation was held on the fifth day while awarding activities / award ceremony carried out on the sixth day.

In the award ceremony, two Polines students who were in two different teams got second and third place. Karina Laras Novitasari and her team consisting of two students from Taiwan and one student from Thailand took second place for their innovation entitled The Bravo (Smart Toothbrush). Another Polines student, Maria Graciella Calma got third place with a product prototype named Pinto. Pinto is a device multitasking which can help human daily activities. To build Pinto, Graciella worked with two students from Thailand and one student from Taiwan.

In addition to competition, this program is expected to enrich students' ability to execute their ideas and ideas, broaden students' horizons in understanding other countries' cultures and build connections through friendship. Polines and First Tech have been in a partnership since 2014 and always send participants to the Winter Camp and Summer Camp programs organized by each university.
