Empowerment and Utilization library by Conducting Literacy', Wednesday (20/9/2017)

The seminar seeks to improve literacy in the Polines library.

The seminar which was held in the Multipurpose Room of the Semarang State Polytechnic was also useful to invite students to be more fond of reading.

The chairman of the committee, Suwarno said the activity was very important to love the library more.

“Cultivating interest in reading books is very important for students. We also invite students to prefer the library as a source and material for doing lectures," said Suwarno.

He added that reading will make you smarter, because books are more valid than reading from the internet.

“Reading books is better than reading articles on the internet because most hoaxes are spread from the internet. But not everyone, but as a student, you have to be good at sorting out what is good and what is bad," he added.

The workshop and training were filled by three speakers, namely Wiji Suwarno, the Head of the UPT Library, STAIN Salatiga, and Riah Wiraningsih, a librarian from Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta.

The last speaker, Supriyanto GS, familiarly called Prie GS, is a humanist and writer in Central Java.

Prie GS said that the library must have a difference compared to articles on the internet.

“The library must be complete with complete literacy from various sources. So students looking for valid literacy go to the library,” said the cultural expert from Semarang City.

The workshop and training program was attended by around 100 participants, consisting of 30 teaching staff, 20 education staff and 50 students.

A student of Mechanical Production and Maintenance Engineering, Arie said students should look for literacy and references in the library.

“As a student like me, we should be careful in searching for literacy on the internet because there are many hoaxes. But not everything has to be selective," concluded Arie. (*)
