Launching “Semar Manggung Robusta Coffee Innovation”, Polines Helps Develop Temanggung Specialty Coffee

SEMARANG – One of the leading commodities of Temanggung district is the production of Temanggung's specialty coffee. Many MSMEs in Temanggung are active in the production and sales of this coffee to better penetrate the national market and export abroad.

However, there are quite a lot of challenges experienced by SMEs in the coffee sector, including obstacles (challenges) in human resources for coffee farmers/traders, coffee production equipment, and modern marketing needed to make Temanggung coffee exportable to foreign countries.

Seeing this condition, Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines) as a vocational college that is considered to have produced a lot of research and innovation in the field of production and marketing of regional specialty coffee for this country felt moved to help build Temanggung through Temanggung's specialty robusta coffee products.

The Polines lecturer team led by Dr. Iwan Hermawan SE SKom MT conducted research on Temanggung coffee innovation and provided training to a number of MSMEs in Temanggung. The team was also assisted by the involvement of 8 Polines students as a form of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

"The training focuses on coffee processing with various high-quality Appropriate Technology (TTG) coffee processing equipment. After the training was over, a number of coffee production tools such as roasting, huller, puller, grading sorting machines and construction of mining tools were handed over to MSMEs to increase the productivity and quality of Temanggung coffee. Other training and mentoring programs include financial administration systems and e-commerce," said Dr. Iwan Hermawan to the press at the Polines campus, Saturday (11/15/2024).

On the occasion of the 190th anniversary of Temanggung City at the Temanggung Regency Square which coincided with the November 10th ceremony (Heroes' Day), the Polines team launched a new product "Inovokasi Kopi Robusta Semar Manggung" which coincided with the 190th anniversary of Temanggung City at the Temanggung Regency Square which coincided with the November 10th ceremony (Heroes' Day) some time ago. Polines also distributed 1,000 free coffee samples during the product lunching.

The chairman of the INOVOKASI committee, Dr. Iwan Hermawan SE SKom MT with members Dr. Yusuf Dewantoro Herlambang ST MT, Dr. Sartono SE MSi, Inayah SPsi MSc and Gita Hindrawati STr MSM said it was important to build the branding of export-quality Temanggung Coffee.

The expectation of the INOVOKASI Robusta Coffee program in collaboration with UKM UKM in Temanggung is to increase production capacity, strengthen the knowledge of UKM partners, and improve skills in using appropriate and sophisticated technology transferred from Polines to the UMKM. (Sgi)
