Polines Students Create Calorie Measuring Device

A number of students in the city of Semarang have succeeded in creating a tool to measure calories released while exercising. This tool can also record exercise tracks and detect the amount of movement.

This tool for detecting the calories released when going to the gym is called Summit Health Gymnasium. This tool created by Semarang State Polytechnic students functions to find out how many calories are expended when exercising. Not only that, this tool can also detect the amount of movement during muscle building and can record training tracks.

According to Polines student, Rasyad Tanzilur Rahma, this tool is very helpful for athletes or people when going to the gym so that their training patterns can be regular. This tool is equipped with sensors so that the results are reported in real time and can be seen via an application on a cell phone. The background to the creation of Summit Health was that there was no gym equipped with a device to measure calories expended during exercise.

"In every gym there is no real time tool for calculating calories, and for knowing targets for building muscle. "So, based on the results of our discussions with the gym owner and Mr. Afandi as accompanying lecturer, we created a tool to overcome partner problems called Summit Health," explained Rasyad.

This student's work received appreciation from the local campus because it was considered that this simple tool made by the student could be useful for the community.

"Of course, we will test the equipment made by these students at the gym and with partners. If there are still shortcomings, maybe we will improve them. "And if it can run well, smoothly, and can be implemented by food partners, we plan to register the copyright," said Afandi Nur Aziz Thohari, supervisor.

The campus plans to produce large quantities for gyms, both in Semarang City and outside the city.
