The Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) team consisting of lecturers and students carried out community service activities at Ky Ageng Giri Kindergarten, Girikusumo, Banyumeneng, Mranggen, Demak, Central Java, Wednesday (11/10/2023). The activity takes the form of training in using the Canva application to support teaching. The event was attended by kindergarten teacher Ky Ageng Giri, members of the Foundation, and teachers in the Mranggen area, Demak.
Head of the Polines Service Team, Dr. Dra. Netty Nurdiyani, M. Hum., said that learning by using the Canva application becomes important when people or teachers are very close to gadgets, especially laptops and cellphones. "The use of laptops and cellphones is so widespread that they are considered a necessity for every aspect," he explained.
Cell phones are no longer a means of communication between teachers and parents of students, but have wider uses, namely to improve a teacher's professionalism. "The service activities carried out use a training format to create graphic designs for teaching materials using Canva," said Netty.
As teachers' abilities increase, it is hoped that students'/learners' ability to understand the subject matter of learning will also increase.
The Independent Learning Curriculum Program aims to develop students' abilities to adapt to an ever-changing environment and prepare them to become an innovative and independent generation in the future.
To implement the Independent Curriculum, a learning platform is provided that can be accessed by teachers and students wherever they are. Apart from that, teachers are also given training to facilitate independent and creative learning by utilizing information and communication technology.
By mastering information technology, teachers can present lesson material adapted to school conditions. Based on this background, Polines is interested in improving the abilities and skills of teachers/educators through community service in the form of socializing the use of the Canva application to prepare learning materials that are attractive, interactive and attract students' attention.
After the presentation of the training material, an assignment was given to create posters with various themes according to the needs of the teaching material. From the results collected, it can be seen that the participants were able to use the various tools taught. For example, choosing a template, choosing and changing the type of font, choosing an image, taking a picture/photo from a cellphone or laptop folder, downloading, and so on.
At the end of the training, LED projectors were handed over from the Polines Community Service Team to Ky Ageng Giri Kindergarten. The delivery of aid was carried out by Dr. Netty Nurdiyani, M.
