Yogyakarta, 29 May 2023 — The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) gave 57 awards to universities. Awards were given to universities with achievements in implementing Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) College program, the best Higher Education Affirmation (ADIK), as well as appreciation to the Task Force for Preventing and Handling Sexual Violence (PPKS Task Force).
"Currently, more than 470 thousand students have had the opportunity to study and work outside campus," said the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim, after the Merdeka Belajar Award at the Trimurti Arts Building, Prambanan Complex, Yogyakarta , Monday (29/5).
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Suharti, in his report said that every award recipient and competition winner had gone through a curation process with clear and strict indicators. The following are the recipients of the Merdeka Belajar Award for universities administering MBKM.
Recipient of the Best Academic Higher Education Category Award
For the category of Best Academic Higher Education organized by MBKM, the award was handed over by the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Dirjen Diktiristek), Nizam.
The best academic university in the subcategory for organizing the Matching Fund Program was awarded to Gadjah Mada University (UGM). Apart from that, UGM also received awards as the university that achieved the largest industrial contribution in the Matching Fund program, the university with the most MBKM Mandiri implementation, and the university providing the best student creativity program.
Furthermore, the award for the university with the highest number of collaborations with practitioners was given to the Mitra Husada Medan College of Health Sciences. The university with the most collaboration proposals was awarded to Hasanuddin University, the university with the largest number of practitioners teaching full time on campus was awarded to Jakarta State University.
Furthermore, the subcategory of the organizing university with the largest number of students participating in Independent Entrepreneurship was given to the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. The university with the highest number of Independent Student exchange students was given to Makassar State University, and the university with the highest percentage of students taking part in the MBKM program was given to the University of Indonesia.
Recipient of the Best Vocational Higher Education Award
Meanwhile, for the Vocational Higher Education category for MBKM organizers, the award was given by the Director General of Vocational Education, Kiki Yuliati. The award for the best vocational higher education implementing the Independent Vocational Campus Competitive Fund program was given to the Pangkajene Islands State Agricultural Polytechnic, the university with the highest number of collaborations with practitioners was given to the Bandung State Polytechnic, and The university with the highest number of collaborative proposal proposers was awarded to the Semarang State Polytechnic.
Furthermore, the university with the highest number of practitioners teaching full time on campus was given to the Bengkalis State Polytechnic, and the university with the highest number of students participating in Independent Entrepreneurship was given to the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic.
The university with the largest number of students attending the Independent Vocational Campus was given to the Kupang State Polytechnic and the university with the most MBKM Mandiri organizers was given to the Malang State Polytechnic.
Meanwhile, for the Vocational Higher Education category with the Matching Fund program organizer subcategory, the award was given to the Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic (PENS). On this occasion, PENS also won the award as the university that achieved the largest industrial contribution in the Matching Fund program.
One of the recipients, Director of the Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic, Aliridho Barakbah, who received the award as the best vocational college in implementing the Matching Fund program, said that his campus created a basic framework first before entering into a larger research strategy.
“Since 2021, we have carried out a redefinition of laboratories. Our main focus is laboratory empowerment. "Furthermore, we are trying to create a strong foundation for collaborative research, both lecturers, industry and students," said Aliridho.
Then, continued Aliridho, the campus carried out a research transformation into a thematic or applied direction. “This principle of benefit is the spirit of Matching Fund research. "So what we have to strengthen there is partnership networks, collaboration, and also the transformation of research into applied-based thematic directions," he said.
Due to this achievement, in January 2023, the Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic was named the best polytechnic in Southeast Asia according to Webometrics. "MBKM is very profitable, especially for us, a campus with a laboratory-based education system, providing space for students to channel their potential," said the vocational higher education leader who won three awards at the 2023 Merdeka Belajar Award.
Disability Care and PPKS Higher Education Award
The Freedom to Learn Award for the Disability Care Universities and Higher Education with PPKS Task Force category, was given by the Expert Staff of the Minister of Education and Culture for Regulations, Nur Syarifah.
This year, the Ministry of Education and Culture gave awards for disability care higher education to the Jakarta State Polytechnic and the Surabaya State University. These two campuses have departments that accept and provide access for students with special needs by providing various educational programs.
Furthermore, in the category of universities implementing the best PPKS program, awards were given to five campuses, namely Brawijaya University, Lambung Mangkurat University, Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jember State Polytechnic, and LPP Yogyakarta Polytechnic.
"This award is given based on the results of monitoring and evaluation accompanied by evidence of the implementation of Permendikbudristek 30/2021 and based on verification results from the Inspectorate General as the work unit responsible for handling sexual violence in the Ministry of Education and Culture," said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The Chancellor of Surabaya State University, Nurhasan, conveyed several concrete actions that Unesa had taken as a form of commitment and concern for students with disabilities to the point that it was named the best campus caring for disabilities. "On campus, we are developing disability-friendly facilities such as braille signage, paths for the blind, or paths that are friendly for roller skaters," said Nurhasan.
Unesa also supports the development of a disability services study center which has now risen to the standard of Disability Directorate which accommodates scientific development and community service for disabled groups. "Apart from that, we also open a special admission route for children with disabilities, providing educational scholarships that support the learning process," said Nurhasan.
Best Higher Education Award by ADIK KIP College and Scholarship Manager
On the same occasion, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Chatarina Muliana Girsang, handed over awards to the best KIP Kuliah Merdeka Management and the best higher education in managing the Higher Education Affirmation Scholarship (ADIK).
The best KIP Kuliah Merdeka Management University, the academic higher education subcategory award was given to the Yogyakarta Veterans National Development University, Semarang State University, and Syiah Kuala University.
For the vocational higher education subcategory, the best KIP management award was given to Ketapang State Polytechnic, Banyuwangi State Polytechnic and Sambas State Polytechnic.
Meanwhile, for the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti), the Best Independent College KIP Management was handed over to LLDikti Region VIII (Bali and West Nusa Tenggara), LLDikti Region XIII (Aceh), and LLDikti Region IX (South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi).
For the ADIK Scholarship management category, awards were given to Udayana University, Bina Darma University, and Singaperbangsa University Karawang.
One of the recipients of the award as the best manager of the ADIK Scholarship program, Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs at Udayana University, Ngakan Putu Gede Suardana said that since 2017, Udayana University has accepted 93 students who received ADIK Scholarships, both from Papua Province, West Papua Province, and from the 3T area.
In managing the ADIK Scholarship program, Putu Gede Suardana said that his campus continues to monitor and evaluate learning outcomes for students who receive the ADIK Scholarship so that they can complete their studies with good grades. "We facilitate them so that their study results are successful, meaning they can graduate with satisfactory grades so that it is easy to get a job," he said after receiving the award.
