Handover of Friction Welding Machine

Earth Polytechnic Akpelni received a laboratory-scale friction welding machine (Friction Welding Machine) which is equipped with a PLC controller and is the result of research from a Politeknik Negeri Semarang Lecturer (Polines), Drs. Poedji Haryanto, S.ST., MT

The handover was held in the workshop of the Earth Polytechnic Akpelni campus, Tuesday (23/8).

This laboratory-scale friction welding machine grant was initiated from a discussion between the Director of the Earth Polytechnic of Akpelni, Capt. Cahya Fajar Budi Hartanto, M.Mar., M.Sc. with one of the research members, Iswanti, S.Si., M.Sc. in January 2022, where the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic became a vocational education that was ready to become a user partner of research results to improve welding skills.

The discussion continued until finally the handover of the friction welding machine was carried out.

The friction welding machine was handed over directly by the researchers and received by the Director of the Earth Polytechnic Akpelni, which was also attended by the Deputy Director, Head of the Ship Engineering Technology Study Program (TRPK), along with related lecturers and laboratory assistants.

For information, this friction welding machine is equipment that works by utilizing hydraulic pressure and rotation that produces heat so that it can melt metal for welding purposes such as splicing, etc.

The advantage of using this tool is that it does not require additional media for welding, minimizes the risk of work accidents, and can be done faster.

After the welding process is complete, microscopic inspection of the weld results can be carried out with equipment that has also been provided by the researcher and is part of the equipment that is donated.

The Director of the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic in his speech said that this additional machine was a form of strengthening the study program which had just transformed from D3 Teknika to S.Tr. TRPK.

In addition to improving the knowledge and skills of cadets, this machine is also expected to be a means of applied research for both internal lecturers and those from other campuses who are still in dire need because according to researchers, until now there are only 3 machines, namely at Polines, Undip, and now. at Earth Polytechnic Akpelni.

The handover is marked by cutting the ribbon and signing the minutes of the handover.

After the handover ceremony, a demonstration of the friction welding machine was carried out and microscopic inspections were carried out.

The event ended with a friendly discussion discussing synergies and collaboration related to the use of friction welding machines in the future.(*)
