Rivers are a source of life for humans and other living things. In Indonesia, rivers are often used for irrigation, transportation and consumption needs. However, along with population growth, of course, it affects the quality of river water. Plus, currently there are still houses on the banks of the river whose existence of course makes the quality decline.
Even some rivers are no longer suitable for use, but people around the river still use them for their daily needs. The quality of river water can be seen from the size of the pH and the strength of the solution in it.
Knowing this problem, 3 Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) students, namely Ariaji Prichi Gamayuda, Annissa Mahardika and Galih Prasetyo Ridho Mukti created the TERBESIT (River Monitoring System Based Internet Of Things) tool. Accompanied by Dr. Amin Suharjono, ST, MT, it is hoped that this tool can help the community to monitor the quality of river water through smartphone.
"This tool is portable so it is easy to carry and put in the river where the quality of the water will be seen,” said the student who is called Ariaji when testing the tool recently. Besides being able to see water quality, this tool can also be used to see the water level in a river. Various components are used to make this tool such as pH sensor, eC sensor, ultrasonic sensor, temperature sensor, Arduino Leonardo, LoRa, and MCU node.
The way this tool works is using an Arduino Leonardo that is connected to these sensors. The sensor will read the temperature of the river water, the acidity, and the strength of the solution. In addition, this tool can also monitor the water level in the river. Data from sensors that have been read will be uploaded to the internet so that the public can monitor it closely real time via smartphones. So that it can help someone to know the quality of river water. This tool will also continue to be developed and refined. It is hoped that this TERBESIT tool can also be developed into a flood alert alarm considering that TERBESIT also has the ability to detect water levels. If it can be a flood alert, of course it can reduce the losses caused by the disaster.
